Community and How It Made Me an Accidental Millionaire
I have a lot of money.
I haven’t always been comfortable in claiming that.
I have more money than probably the last 10 generations of my ancestors combined.
It all happened so fast.
In 2013 I had $6.17 in my bank account.
In 2014 I had more than a million.
Why do I call myself a “community-made millionaire?”
Because it’s true
And I want people who relate to me to know it is possible
If that is something that they want
Not everyone wants to be rich
And for me, the virality of Passion Planner made me an
accidental community-made millionaire.
A huge community of more than 20,000 people
Came together and backed a Kickstarter
And made me a millionaire over the course of 30 days.
Also a huge community of my relatives, teachers, friends, and ancestors
Guided, protected, and taught me
Sacrificed for me
So I could have the skills and opportunities to be able to thrive in society
And this society is hard to live in, and on top of all of this
I am really lucky.
I think my success is a combination of at least 90% luck and privilege
And the rest is some effort on my part
But as someone who has a body that is capable to act,
With a brain that works so I can connect the dots to act
Isn’t that a privilege in itself?
I revise that percentage of luck to 99%.
Yes, I did act, but so many things had to align before.
Including my parents.
Including being born in the US.
Including English being my first language.
Including being able to use my senses.
Including having access to food.
Including not having a chronic illness.
Including inheritly believing I can do hard things.
I am so lucky.
I could not have done it without my community.
I am a community-made millionaire
that will continue to help millions
with what I and my community make.
